- M (Metastasis):

- M0 means no distant metastasis, while M1 indicates distant metastasis.
Overall Stage Classification
After determining the T, N, and M categories, an overall stage is assigned using Roman numerals from I to IV:
- Stage I: Cancer is localized to the primary site with no lymph node involvement or distant metastasis.
- Stage II: Cancer is larger or has spread to nearby tissues but still lacks distant metastasis.
- Stage III: Cancer has spread to regional lymph nodes or is more extensive but has not metastasized to distant sites.
- Stage IV: Cancer has spread to distant parts of the body.
